Music
You CAN have music on your Avon website. But there is one little catch. This code works only in Internet Explorer and Opera browsers.
Other browsers, including Netscape and Firefox, will completely ignore this tag. Website visitors who use those browsers will not hear your music.
Another important thing to consider. Your Sound Player controls are completely hidden with this code. Your visitor has no choice but to listen to your music. Imagine you are discreetly surfing the web, and suddenly music automatically blasts off in the background. Not too cool if you're at work or some other public place. Also keep in mind that a big music file may cause a slower page download.
It all comes down to choosing your music in a conservative and thoughtful manner. Now let's make some music!
Music Folder
The first thing you will need to do is
create a folder to store your music files in. If you're a beginner the best place for your folder is probably on your desktop because it's so easy to find.
1. To create a folder go to your desktop and right click on an open area.
2. Scroll down to 'New'.
3. Left click 'Folder'.
4. Once your folder appears on your desktop you will notice that the folder
name is highlighted. This is giving you the opportunity to name your folder.
It is always best to give your folder a very memorable name that accurately describes it's contents. If you are creating a folder for music you could name
the folder 'My Music'. You get the the idea. :)
5. Type in the name you want to give to your newly created folder.
6. Hit Enter to complete the process.
Getting The Music
There are several ways to get music onto your computer. Here are a few...
1. Buy music online by the song or by a subscription service
2. Find sites with free downloads. Just Google FREE MP3s and you'll find many free mp3 websites.
3. Load songs from your CD collection onto your computer
If your computer does not have a CD player you will have to download your music by buying it online or finding a free download site.
If you would like to learn how to get music from your own CDS onto your computer just click the following link.
Web Hosts
You will need a web host for your music. Here are a few options.
1. Pay for a web host. Great if you want to create your own website. You can get a ton of space for your music, videos and and photographs. The amount of space you get depends on which plan you choose.
2. Sign up for a free account. Perfect if all you want is enough space for a couple of songs. Here are two free Web Hosts for you to check out.
a) GeoCities offers free accounts. Please be aware - GeoCities only accepts .mid, .midi, or .wav music files. No MP3 uploads here.
Like with all free hosting plans, there are limits on file uploads with your free GeoCities account, so keep an eye on your usage.
If you would like a free GeoCities account just click the above link and follow the prompts. You'll be uploading your .mid, .midi, or .wav music files in no time.
b) You should also check out Ripway. They are a fantastic free music web host.
And unlike GeoCities, they DO allow MP3 uploads, as well as all other music file formats.
They give you 30 MB of space - which is awesome! Ripway also generates the code you need for your player.
- One word of warning - It is VERY easy to use 30MB, so keep an eye on your uploads.
If you don't have a personal web host and you plan on uploading multiple songs on a regular basis I highly recommend that you look into purchasing one of Ripways premium account plans. They are very affordable. Check it out by clicking the UPGRADE button.
If you decide to go with Ripway and would like to read a tutorial on How upload your music files with Ripway just click the following link-
3. Your third option is to allow me to host your music files. If you are interested in this option please make your request known to me via email.
The Codes
Take a look at my code below. As you can see I have inserted my Ripway song filename into my code.
<bgsound src="http://h1.ripway.com/carvia/Saville.mp3" loop="infinite">
Now all you have to do is insert YOUR information exactly as I did mine, inserting your song file information in place of the blue text.
How cool is that?
PLEASE do not use the above code in your Avon website. That is MY code. If you use my code you will be taking bandwidth away from me. Thanks.
* Please note - If you are using GeoCities make sure this / is in between your GeoCities site name and your song filename in all of your music player codes.
If you want your music to NEVER, EVER stop, then this is the code for you.
<bgsound src="yourusername/yoursongname.mp3 (or .wav or .mid)" loop="infinite">
With this code your song will play ONE time - and then stop.You can change my white 1 to any number you choose. For example - if you put the number 3 in the code, your song will play three times.
<bgsound src="yourusername/yoursongname.mp3 (or .wav or .mid)" loop="1">
Please DO NOT insert any code containing JAVASCRIPT into your website editor!
JavaScript will COMPLETELY FREEZE your editor. I cannot stress this enough. If you are in doubt concerning your code please email me the code and I will check it out for you.
